Chartered Clinical Psychologist

Specialising in Weight Management

Clinical Experience

I have worked in the NHS for over 16 years supporting people with a range of psychological difficulties. In the last 9 years I have specialised in weight management. Research has shown that for some people obesity/overweight can be the result of trying to cope with underlying interpersonal trauma experienced in childhood or adulthood. Weight gain can also be associated with trying to cope with chronic pain and long-term physical health conditions. Food can become an immensely powerful tool in numbing troubling/difficult feelings and drowning out difficult thoughts. This helps us to cope in the short-term but unfortunately weight gain becomes an unintended consequence which can have huge implications for our health, self-esteem, and our ability to engage in life.

If you are looking for support with the following difficulties, please feel free to contact me on the details below.

  • help understanding the psychological factors related to weight gain (overweight/obesity)
  • difficult body image
  • patterns of yo-yo dieting/difficulty maintaining weight loss
  • emotion-driven eating/ binge eating
  • low self-esteem
  • weight regain after bariatric surgery

Training/Professional Membership

I completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology & Neuroscience at the University of Manchester and later completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Lancaster.

I am a chartered member of the British Psychological Society and a member of the Health Care Professions Council (as is a statutory requirement for practitioner psychologists).
